Love is in the air at local horse charity, The Horse Trust

Reopening

Local charity The Horse Trust reopened its gates to visitors last weekend in time for the start of the 2014 season. Supporters enjoyed the opportunity to catch up with their favourite horses after The Horse Trust was closed for winter in December and January.

Old Favourites

Among the horses on the yard were old favourites like retired army horse Commando and rescue pony Teddy. They were joined by some of The Horse Trust’s newest arrivals, including police horse Alfie. Alfie arrived at The Horse Trust in January 2014 following the closure of the Cleveland Police Mounted Section. He is a 17.2hh striking bay gelding with a heart of gold and his friendly character quickly charmed all of the visitors.

Sponsors enjoyed the weekend

Regular visitors and horse sponsors Janet and John Cannon, whose son serves with The Household Cavalry Mounted Section, were the first visitors through the gate, and were over the moon to be reunited with their sponsored horses.

Janet said ‘We are both so looking forward to many visits to you this year. We adore The Horse Trust and we cannot wait to see you all again… You are never far from our thoughts each day. We hope that 2014 will be a super year for you all!’

Celebrate Valentine’s at The Horse Trust

To celebrate the month of love, The Horse Trust is hosting three days of Valentine’s celebrations this weekend between Friday 14th and Sunday 16th February. Between 2pm and 4pm visitors are invited to bring along that special someone, or simply come and give their favourite horse, pony or donkey an extra special Valentine’s cuddle! Visitors can enter our prize draw, make a Valentine’s card or enjoy afternoon tea in our newly refurbished Black Beauty tea room and gift shop.

Sponsor a horse for Valentine’s Day

The perfect way to show your love for The Horse Trust is to sponsor a horse. There are 13 horses in the sponsorship scheme including Commando, Teddy and little Hamish, who was rescued in November 2013. Please help by giving a horse a Valentine’s gift this February. Sponsorship starts from just £2.00 a month and sponsors will receive a photograph, a personalised certificate of sponsorship and a fact sheet as well as regular updates and invitations to exclusive events.
