A Big Day for Boris

We are incredibly proud to announce that former Metropolitan Police and Gloucestershire Police resident, Boris has recently been awarded a second medal, in recognition of his outstanding police work.

In 2014, Boris was honoured to be awarded the PDSA Award for his role with the Metropolitan Police during the London Riots. Our handsome grey was described at the time as “as brave as they come with a lovely calm nature and willingness to work.” Boris, though small for a police horse, had led the mounted unit into the heart of the Tottenham Riots immediately after a long day policing a Tottenham vs Arsenal football match. We had the honour of all the horses involved in those awful events appearing at Olympia for us when we were charity of the year in 2011, led of course by Boris the Brave.

This year, our Boris was once again recognised for his policing work. We recently had the honour of welcoming representatives from the Gloucestershire Police Mounted Branch to The Horse Trust where Boris received a high honour as part of the ‘Animals in Policing Awards 2021’. This was awarded to Boris for his exemplary service with Gloucestershire Constabulary.

We are extremely proud and honoured to provide such a well-deserved retirement for Boris and other horses like him, who have dedicated so many years to serving the country. You can see further photos of Boris with Gloucestershire Police on their visit and wearing his medal on our Facebook page here.
