Horse Trust Legends
To celebrate our 135th anniversary this year (10 May), we’re counting down to the big day with a series of ‘Horse Trust Legends’ posts on our Facebook page.
Every Wednesday we will be revealing one of our 10 legend horses from our great 135 year history.
Take a look at the photo below to see our first legend. Legend number 1 is one of our first ever respite cases and the below images show this same London cab horse upon entering The Horse Trust and then several months later leaving, after having rested and recovered during it’s stay with us.
In our early days, the charity took in many London cab horses who had been worked incredibly hard by their owners who needed to make a living and put food on the table for their families. Thanks to Ann Lindo, who founded our charity in 1886, owners were able to leave their exhausted horses with us to recover, whilst being loaned a replacement healthy horse to continue work. This enabled both the horse to go back to work in a healthier condition, and the owner to continue to earn money whilst their horse was recovering.
135 years later and although our role has changed over the years, we are still proudly helping ex-working and ex-serving horses, as well as taking in rescue horses who have been neglected or abandoned.
Make sure you follow us on Facebook to learn more about our incredible history and see who the next 9 legends will be (there’s a rather large clue on the main image of this page as to one of them!)
