Delivering bespoke courses to Equine Professionals
The Horse Trust offers distance learning through short online courses for professionals working in the equine welfare sector in England and Wales. The courses cover a range of subjects based around legislation, welfare, handling and equine behaviour.
Whatever your role working with horses or donkeys, as a veterinary surgeon, for a charity or enforcement organisation we have a course for you.
Short Online Courses for Equine Professionals
The short online courses are affordable and offer remote study options and cover topics in bite sized format. Courses are delivered on-line to allow the learner to work through the course at their own pace and around their work and personal commitments. Some courses may also include a practical training day at our Home of Rest for Horses in Buckinghamshire.

An Overview of the Animal Welfare Act 2006 | This provides an overview of the Animal Welfare Act 2006 and the sections contained. | £100 |
Control of Horses Act 2015 explained | All you need to know about the Control of Horses Act 2015 and enforcing this. | £100 |
An Introduction to Horse Health | This course provides a basic introduction into horse health. | £100 |
The Five Needs in Practice | A practical guide to ensuring horses are having the five needs included in the Animal Welfare Act met. | £100 |
An Introduction to Equine Nutrition | A basic introduction into equine nutrition. | £100 |
Meeting the needs of geriatric Equids | This course discusses how the care of geriatric horses may differ and how to meet their needs. | £100 |
1) An introduction to Equine Behaviour 2) An introduction to the principles of how horses learn 3) An introduction to equine behaviour modification | These 3 courses are a series and should be completed in the order specified on the list. These courses will go into equine behaviour, how horses learn and the principles of equitation science and learning theory. | £250 |
Transporting horses by road | This is a handling and behaviour course based around transporting horses. | £100 |
