Rest in Peace Venture
Rest in peace, Venture. As a Home of Rest for retired equine civil servants we have more than our fair share of goodbyes. It is our duty and our privilege to care for these wonderful horses in their twilight years and also to know when it’s best for them to let them go for that final sleep.
23 year old Venture came to us three years ago after serving for 17 years in the Lifeguards. This handsome chap with his devilishly dashing pointy ears had a wonderful retirement after a wonderful career. With the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment he served in Trooping the Colour and all the other big parades many, many times and served on Queen’s Life Guard duty on countless occasions. Whilst retired he represented military horses in the Horse Trust’s Black Beauty Parade at Blenheim and was a firm favourite with visitors and staff alike.
Sadly last week Venture became very poorly and our vet diagnose multiple organ failure. The whole team was very sad to see him go but it was his time and that’s the greatest service we can give in return for all of his years of service to this country. Goodnight Venture, you are hugely missed but we are all so thankful to have known you and cared for you, sleep tight lovely one, you’ve earned your rest.
