Yachtsman Retired
Yachtsman, fondly known as Corky, retired to our Home of Rest for Horses following a three year career with the Metropolitan Mounted Branch after his career was sadly cut short due to a suspensory ligament injury.
During his career, Yachtsman achieved a great deal to be proud of. He was on the front line of Public Order Policing, escorted large scale demonstrations and protests including the Student and Teacher Demonstrations, Stop the Oil protests, and many more. He also took part in daily taskings and reassurance patrols, escorted remounts from the military and Household Cavalry and policed large football stadiums. In fact, he was often the supervisor’s horse due to his bravery, standing stoically around large crowds and volatile fans.
To add to his long list of achievements, Yachtsman was a protection horse ridden by armed outriders in the procession for the Platinum Jubilee celebration of the late Queen Elizabeth ll in 2022 and assisted the major diversion point at her Funeral and Trooping The Colour in June 2023. He was also the supervisors horse King’s Coronation celebration in May 2023!
Yachtsman is fondly described by his former colleagues as; “an utterly loveable thug, who can be boisterous and a little clumsy at times with little spatial awareness! But most of all, he is affectionate, inquisitive, and very kind.”
We are honoured to give this talented and wonderful horse a well-earned retirement here at our sanctuary.
