Inverness, fondly known as Mack, is a 17hh Clydesdale cross who retired at the age of 20 after an incredible 11-year career with Police Scotland. With his calm nature, impressive stature, and a personality full of charm, Inverness became something of a local celebrity – not just for his role in policing but for his presence at some of Scotland’s most high-profile events.

Throughout his career, Inverness served at major football fixtures including the Old Firm and Edinburgh Derby matches, COP26, the Commonwealth Games in 2014, Hampden Park’s 2016 pitch invasion, and mass public events such as the George Square disorder in 2021. He was a trusted and seasoned member of the team, often helping to teach new recruits during Standard Equitation Courses. Though not always the first horse allocated to trainees, he certainly helped many develop strong riding muscles and learn how to handle a horse with spirit!

Known for his quirky dislike of rain, Inverness is now enjoying a more relaxed lifestyle at The Horse Trust in the (slightly sunnier!) Chiltern Hills. He thrives in the company of other horses and is happiest surrounded by friends. While he’s incredibly affectionate, age is no obstacle for Inverness and he can still be excitable when it’s time for turnout – especially if he’s been waiting!

Inverness re-joins old friends, Edinburgh and Kilsyth, and is making plenty of new friends here in Buckinghamshire. We’re thrilled to offer this gentle giant a well-earned retirement where he can continue to bring smiles to everyone who meets him.
