GISBURN
Gisburn Working
Gisburn Retired
Gisburn is a stunning bay 16.3hh gelding who retired from the Lancashire Mounted Police in September at the age of 16. He spent 11 years in noble service, participating in all types of police patrol work, including football matches, and teaching many officers to ride on the standard equitation course.
Notably, Gisburn—known as “Pumpkin” when he was younger—served at the Mutual Aid during the U.S. President’s visit, supporting Thames Valley Police. He also took part in the 2014 Commonwealth Games and the Burnley Homecoming with thousands of fans, where he served alongside retired PH Elswick.
Gisburn is very friendly to both people and horses, making him a trusted and reliable presence in the constabulary. Sometimes unaware of his own strength, Gisburn is affectionately described by his former teammates as a bit of a thug, though a lovable one!
One of Gisburn’s former riders fondly reminisced, as she accompanied him on the day of his official retirement:
He is the best boy, and we are really going to miss him. He can be a bit of a thug, but he is very social and lovable really!
Due to recurring lameness, the decision was made to hang up his saddle and provide him with a slower pace of life in the lush Chilterns. Now a beloved member of our herd here, Gisburn’s inquisitive nature and bold yet incredibly sweet personality has won over the hearts of us all.
