Atticus Retired

Meet Atticus, a striking 17.2hh bay Irish Sports Horse, who retired after an extraordinary 14-year career with The Household Division. Known for his bold yet gentle nature, Atticus spent his time as an Officer’s Charger, becoming a familiar and trusted presence in parades, state ceremonies, and royal events across the UK. His calm temperament and dignified appearance made him a true standout.
After suffering from recurring lameness towards the end of his career, it became clear that Atticus was ready for a slower pace of life. He received a heartfelt ceremonial retirement at the Burghley Horse Trials, where his saddle removal in the Main Arena and replaced with his very own Horse Trust rug.
Now, Atticus is a beloved member of our herd at our Home of Rest for Horses in Buckinghamshire, where he is enjoying a peaceful retirement in the beautiful Chilterns. Surrounded by lush pastures, former colleagues and new equine friends, this gentle giant is relaxing and enjoying his well-deserved rest. We were honoured to welcome Atticus, giving him the love and care he so richly deserves.
