OUR STORY
1971
In 1971, The Home of Rest made its final move from Borehamwood to Speen Farm in the Chiltern Hills in rural Buckinghamshire. The ideal permanent spot for the Home of Rest for Horses. During this time, some of our most well-known police and military horses came to us including:
Templar
A grand old Police horse from the City of London who retired to us in July 1975. “It did not take him long to realise that two o’clock in the afternoon was time for the arrival of visitors, and with them came tit-bits!”
Cicero
A drum horse who retired from the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment in the 1980s and was a great favourite. Cicero was famous and not only had two books written about him, but was a guest star on ‘Blue Peter’ and a film was made about his life.
