We are deeply grateful to the Society of Equestrian Artists for selecting The Horse Trust…
Mounted Police Association raise money for The Horse Trust this Christmas
We would like to thank the Mounted Police Association for their donation of over £400 to The Horse Trust this Christmas. The money was raised during a raffle at their Christmas dinner and reunion.
The Mounted Police Association is open to serving and retired mounted officers. Membership is made up mainly of Metropolitan Police and City of London Police mounted branches.
Many members are very active in horse welfare issues and charities nationwide. They also share and active social life. The Horse Trust enjoys a special relationship with the mounted branches and we are honoured that we can work together to help improve the lives of police horses through their working years and their retirement.
The Mounted Branches worked tirelessly and heroically throughout the night across the country to restore order, dodging missiles and burning buildings as they fought to control the chaos.
Police horses are the first on the front line in times of conflict, often risking serious injury to carry out their duties protecting the public. The physical and mental effort required by both horse and rider cannot be underestimated. It is asserted that, in crowd control situations, one Police horse can do the job of 12 Police Officers on the ground because of their physical mass and height advantage. Given this, it is difficult to imagine where we would be without these hardworking and fearless animals and their officers.
That’s why we are so proud to provide a home for these retired police horses, who can retire to with dignity and grace. It is our privilege to give these hard-working equine public servants a peaceful retirement to thank them for a lifetime of service.
We would like to thank everyone from the Mounted Police Association who took part in the raffle. This very generous gift will go towards the horses, ponies and donkeys being cared for at The Horse Trust.
