Kat Completes Cardiff Half Marathon in Aid of Horse Charity
Kat Sully turned heads last Sunday as she ran the Cardiff half- Marathon in an inflatable cowboy horse costume to raise funds for Buckinghamshire charity The Horse Trust.
Kat, 27, originally from Chesham but currently living in Tamarind Yard, Wapping, ran the half-Marathon in two hours, ten minutes and one second.
“I grew up in the Chilterns and I have always owned and loved horses,” said Kat.Β “Obviously, it’s quite difficult to own a horse living in London, but I always try and ride whenever I come back home to my parents.”
Kat decided to raise funds for The Horse Trust after her own pony Ace died from Grass Sickness earlier this year.Β “I know The Horse Trust funds research into equine diseases like Grass Sickness and I wanted to do something to support them,” said Kat.
Kat had undertaken a vigorous training schedule, running as much as she could around London and the Chiltern Hills.Β “My training schedule was really hard, however, the all-round personal rewards have been really good.Β My biggest challenge was running whilst wearing the inflatable costume – but it went really well and I got loads of cheers.”
Kat set herself a target of raising Β£500 for the charity but has now surpassed this.Β “My friends and family have all been so generous,” she said. “I ran with a charity bucket too, so got a bit of money as I went round. The weather was very cold and was perfect for running. It was only the last mile where I got quite hot. It was like having a wet shower curtain sticking to me as I ran! I was a bit stiff the next day, but I’m really glad I took part.”
Susan Lewis, Marketing Manager for The Horse Trust said: “We are so grateful to Kat for her fundraising efforts. What an impressive achievement to run a half-marathon in a horse costume! The money raised will help us fund vital research work, improving diagnosis and treatment for equine diseases.”
