A Greener Path: The Horse Trust’s Journey Towards Sustainability

At The Horse Trust, 2024 marked a turning point as we redoubled our efforts to weave sustainability into every aspect of our work. While our primary mission has always been to provide exceptional care for our beloved herd and advance excellence in equine welfare, we recognise that protecting the environment is just as important – not only for our horses but for the generations to come.

We believe that meaningful change starts with small, intentional steps. From enhancing our daily operations to adopting eco-friendly practices, we are committed to balancing sustainability with the unparalleled care our Equine Care Team offers. This is a journey, and like any meaningful endeavour, it will take time. But with patience, passion, and a little help from our friends (that’s you!) we know we can make a lasting impact.

Join Us on Our Sustainable Journey

We’re excited to share regular updates on our progress, and we hope you’ll enjoy following our experiences. But we can’t do it alone. Your support, advice, and insights are invaluable to us.

Tips on reducing energy consumption? Ideas for maximising biodiversity safely on site? Creative ways to reduce water waste? We’re all ears!

If you have any ideas or guidance to share, please email us at info@horsetrust.org.uk. Your contributions can help shape a greener, more sustainable future for our sanctuary and its residents.

Reopening with Nature in Focus

As we reopen our doors to the public, we’re delighted to welcome you back to experience the beauty of our Home of Rest for Horses first-hand. Nestled in the heart of the Chilterns, The Horse Trust offers a unique day out where you can take in breath-taking landscapes and connect with our horses, along with some new arrivals…

Standing at an adorable 8-9hh and covered in fluff, you may have already heard about our latest additions – a flock of sheep! These woolly wonders have joined us at Speen for cross-grazing, a natural and sustainable way to maintain our fields. By sharing grazing duties with our horses, they help control weeds, improve pasture health, and even disrupt equine parasites, reducing the need for chemical treatments. It’s a win for the land, the animals, and local wildlife! So, next time you visit, keep your eyes peeled. You never know what surprises await!

And be sure to watch this space for updates on our charming footpath, which winds around the horse fields and leads to the hidden gem of our Woodland Walk. This peaceful trail offers stunning views, rekindling an appreciation for nature while giving a glimpse into the diverse woodland wildlife that shares our sanctuary.

The grand reopening of this path is coming soon, so stay tuned. We’ll be sharing all the details shortly!

Thank You
