Kelbrook Working

Kelbrook Retired

After an impressive 11 years of dedicated service with Lancashire Police, Kelbrook has officially hung up his bridle and joined us for a well-earned retirement. This 16.2hh piebald gelding is known for his calm, steadfast nature and has proven himself an unshakeable presence throughout his career.
Kelbrook undertook all aspects of police work, from local patrols to high-pressure public order duties. He attended countless football matches, local, national, and international and became something of a fan favourite thanks to his signature look; protective goggles, affectionately dubbed his “sunglasses,” worn due to a condition called uveitis. His calm confidence made him the perfect mount during high-profile events, including the visit of U.S. President Donald Trump in 2018.
A trusted teacher, Kelbrook also played a key role in training new officers, featuring on both the standard and intermediate equitation courses. His patience and dependability made him a go-to horse for helping riders gain confidence and learn the ropes.
Kelbrook joins us in retirement due to arthritis in his hocks. True to form, he’s taken this next chapter completely in stride. While he may appear aloof at first, those who spend time with him soon see the softer side, particularly when he thinks no one is watching and decides to join in on the herd’s antics. He has a soft spot for his younger, more playful colleague Bowker, who retired alongside him, though he’d never admit it, of course.
We are honoured to care for Kelbrook in his retirement. With his cool-headed charm and quiet, wise demeanour, he’s already made a lasting impression on us all.
