Bowker Retired

Bounding into retirement, Bowker joins The Horse Trust after six devoted years of service with Lancashire Police. A striking 16.2hh chestnut gelding, Bowker is full of personality with an undeniable charm which made him a standout character both on and off duty.

Joining the force as a four-year-old, Bowker quickly proved his versatility, participating in all aspects of police work including public order duties and daily patrols. A natural leader, he also played a key role in training new recruits, helping guide them through both the standard and intermediate equitation courses.

Throughout his career, Bowker attended numerous high-profile events, including football matches, Lytham Festival, Remembrance Day parades, and the late Queen Elizabeth II’s remembrance parade in 2022. His name honours the late Bill Bowker, former Chair of the Lancashire Police Horse Benevolent Fund, whose legacy lives on through this bright, bold gelding.

Now aged 10, Bowker retires due to joint arthritis, with vets recommending a slower pace of life, though convincing Bowker of that has been easier said than done. Since arriving, he’s enthusiastically explored his new surroundings, taken a keen interest in his herd mates, and wasted no time charming the humans too.

Best described as the playful younger brother of the group, Bowker’s larger-than-life personality is already making an impression. We’re delighted to welcome him into retirement and look forward to watching him flourish in his new home.
