Remembering Grace: A Legacy of Love and Strength

When 12-year-old Grace was diagnosed with brain cancer in 2018, she faced her illness with remarkable courage and determination. Grace loved to ride and was a regular visitor to The Horse Trust. Despite the challenges, Grace continued to ride horses, a passion that brought her immense joy throughout her life. Her story is one of bravery, love, and the profound bond between humans and horses.

Grace and her family were long-time supporters of The Horse Trust, visiting for over 20 years. From the time her eldest brother was a baby, their visits brought joy to the family and allowed Grace to experience the unique bond with horses. 

As well as being a regular visitor to our Home of Rest for Horses in Speen, Grace loved to ride. 

Grace’s mum, Rebecca, reflects on her daughter’s strength:

Grace was an absolute warrior through her illness and continued to ride despite issues with her sight from the tumour. She passed away on November 2nd, 2020, aged 14.

Her favourite horse, Puzzle, a beautiful black-and-white mare, held a special place in her heart. Grace rode Puzzle whenever she could, and in a touching tribute, Puzzle led at the celebration of Grace’s life.

To honour Grace’s memory, her family has gifted a Gold Sponsorship of retired Metropolitan Police Horse, Grace. Rebecca shares why this sponsorship is so meaningful:

At The Horse Trust, we are deeply touched that Grace’s family has chosen to honour her in this way. Charities like ours often serve as places of solace and sanctuary, not just for the retired and rescue horses we care for, but also for the people who visit. The bond between humans and horses is special, and Grace’s story is a reminder of how these gentle giants can bring comfort and strength during life’s most challenging times.
