Goodnight, Jedburgh
Goodnight, Jedburgh.
It is with great sorrow that we recently had to say a final goodbye to our beloved Jedburgh, a retired Metropolitan Police horse, aged 21.
Jed began his retirement with us in 2017 after a very successful 10-year career, that had some very exciting highlights; From Margaret Thatcher’s funeral to football matches and the London Riots, not forgetting the many school visits.
This handsome horse had recently had an altercation with a thorn piercing his cornea and needed some veterinary intervention. Miraculously, he didn’t need surgery or for the eye to be removed. Nicky, our vet, was very happy with his recovery and how nicely it was healing. The team were all so pleased with how well he was recovering from this, so when he suddenly developed colic, it made the decision to let him cross the rainbow bridge even more heart breaking.
He was such a loving, playful and charismatic character; often making our grooms day by pulling silly faces, starring in many ‘Tongue Out Tuesdays’, nibbling at their pockets for treats and galloping around with his friends. His presence around the yard and in the fields will definitely leave a Jed sized hole.
You’ll always be in our hearts, Black Beauty.
Rest well Jed!
With love from your friends across the pond at Redwings Horse Sanctuary in Paso Robles, California
