STORM

Storm joined us from The Royal Mews where he served a magnificent 15 years, pulling Queen Elizabeth II’s carriage.

Storm is somewhat of a celebrity and has a shared history with our dear late resident, Daniel. Storm and Daniel worked together on many occasions including pulling Queen Elizabeth II’s carriage on the day of her Diamond Jubilee in 2012.

Storm, along with fellow Windsor Grey, Daniel, were so popular with Queen Elizabeth II that a life-sized statue of the pair of them was commissioned in 2013 and unveiled in Windsor to celebrate her Diamond Jubilee in 2012. The giant artwork was created by sculptor Robert Rattray and can be seen today on The Long Walk. It’s a wonderful way to recognise these two magnificent horses who now reside with us at The Horse Trust.

Storm, an Irish Draught, performed many duties as a State Ceremonial Carriage horse including pulling the carriages in which Queen Elizabeth II and other members of the Royal Family travelled. This meant Storm was at the front of many important events during his career including the Prince and Princess of Wales’ wedding in 2011, Prince Harry and Meghan Markle’s wedding, many State Visits, State Openings as well as Royal Ascot, to name just a few.

Storm retired to us due to an irregular heart meaning he is no longer fit to work at the level required to perform his duties. He was described as ‘bomb proof’, perhaps the ultimate compliment to any serving horse, meaning he wasn’t afraid of anything and was incredibly reliable. He has also been described as ‘strong’ but ‘very soft and kind in nature’.
