Scooby’s Story
Officially joining the City of London Police in 2019, Scooby, a striking 16.2hh Cob-Trotter cross, quickly proved himself a reliable and steadfast partner both under saddle and in harness. With his smart, eye-catching presence and calm nature, Scooby brought a unique flair to the force during his five years of dedicated service.
From high-profile events such as the funeral of the late Queen Elizabeth II to numerous Lord Mayor’s Shows, Scooby took it all in his stride. He also played a vital role in public order duties across the city and proved invaluable as a teaching horse for new officers. With his friendly nature and rock-solid temperament, Scooby was affectionately described by colleagues as an “excellent teacher who always looked after the new recruits.”
Scooby’s career was cut short due to a deep digital tendon tear, requiring ongoing care and a well-earned slower pace of life. Since arriving at The Horse Trust, Scooby has wasted no time settling in. While he’s already known for his rather selective interest in activities, only if they don’t require too much effort, he’s shown great enthusiasm for checking grooms’ pockets for treats. Ever the character, Scooby has surprised us all with his impressive flexibility and comic timing.
We are absolutely delighted to welcome Scooby into retirement. With his charming blend of playfulness and calm, we know he will thrive here among old friends and new admirers alike.
