Frank is just four years old – a young, beautiful Friesian x donkey mule who, until recently, had known nothing but neglect. Found in appalling conditions and suffering from a truly horrific mass, Frank has now been rescued and is at the beginning of his journey to a better life. But to have any chance of survival, he urgently needs your help.

Thanks to the compassion of a good Samaritan and the wonderful team at Communities For Horses, Frank was removed from his suffering and taken to a place of temporary safety in Wales. We’ve now taken him into our ownership at The Horse Trust, but he cannot yet come to us. Frank must remain under veterinary supervision near where he was found, until he undergoes potentially life-saving surgery.

A Life-Threatening Discovery

Frank’s primary veterinary concern is deeply personal and, sadly, distressing. It is likely the result of an illegal, incomplete, and botched castration attempt — or possibly a tumour that has since become dangerously infected. His condition is painful, serious, and traumatic. We are currently awaiting further blood tests to understand the full extent of this and to determine whether surgery could save him.

Encouragingly, Frank is responding well to initial antibiotics and pain relief. However, until he can be safely sedated and fully examined, we cannot guarantee what the outcome will be. If it proves to be an infection or a treatable growth, we will do everything possible to give Frank the healthy, happy life he deserves. If the results reveal something more serious, we will ensure he passes with dignity and love — knowing he was finally cared for.

Frank’s Story So Far

It’s clear Frank has endured a lifetime of mistreatment. The scars on his neck from tethering are bright white, suggesting they were inflicted when he was very young. His feet are badly overgrown – another painful reminder of long-term neglect. And yet, despite everything, Frank remains gentle, and we remain full of quiet hope.

This little mule deserves the chance of a future that’s free from pain. Every one of our rescues deserves that chance.

How You Can Help

Frank’s treatment will cost thousands. Surgery, hospitalisation, diagnostics, and ongoing care are all essential – and urgently needed.

We’ve raised £3,495 so far, but we need to reach £20,000 to give Frank the very best chance. Every gift, no matter the size, takes us closer to saving him.

  • £15 could help provide essential pain relief
  • £30 could fund urgent diagnostic scans and tests
  • £150 could contribute to life-saving surgery and specialist care

We’ll keep you updated every step of the way. Thank you for caring, for sharing, and for standing with Frank in his hour of need.

Together, we can give him the second chance he deserves. Please note: this page contains graphic medical imagery.
