Roundup of 2016
Our Horses, Hounds and Heroes event this year was a massive success and the team were overwhelmed with the incredible feedback we received. The sun was shining down on us, and we couldn’t have asked for a better day. It was thanks to all the exhibitors and the fabulous displays that took place in the main arena that this day was a resounding success, and of course we couldn’t of run this event without all of our amazing volunteers. This is our largest fundraising event of the year and is hugely important to us. We hope you will join us for our sixth annual Horses, Hounds and Heroes event which will be taking place at our Home of Rest in Buckinghamshire on the 16th July 2017.
Whilst the horses, ponies and donkeys in our immediate care are always our number one priority, we are only a relatively small sanctuary and so we’ve found exciting new ways to help so many more horses through our “Equines in Crisis” training programmes. This training is giving essential skills, knowledge and confidence to professionals who may come into contact with horses in the worst of circumstances but who are not horse professionals, those people that keep our communities safe but need our help to keep them safe in a crisis involving a frightened horse. We have been training Police Officers, Fire and Rescue Officers and most recently, Highways England Officers, all of whom may be called upon to deal with a terrified horse, probably in pain and in need of rescue be they stuck in a ditch or running loose on the motorway.
We hope to have the same success with our rehoming scheme, as well as continuing to support vital projects aimed at improving the health and well-being of all horses in 2017. Thanks to everyone who has been a part of the world’s oldest horse charity and we are deeply grateful for all the support that you have given us in 2016.
