Wiggins, aka Bradley, is a stunning 18.2hh bay roan Shire gelding who went through extensive training with The Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment to be a potential Drum Horse. Unfortunately, unlike his namesake, this Wiggins never quite made the grade due to his nervous disposition, so he didn’t complete his training.
Being ridden, let alone with a pair of heavy drums on board, may not have been the right path for this gorgeous big boy however he is very easy to manage on the ground due to his lovely kind manners. Wiggins reacted to the most subtle movements whilst in training, and because he found it stressful, the experience started to impact his weight so he was transferred to the Defence Animal Centre for assessment. There he took part in their Open Day and thoroughly enjoyed being in the parade of horses, and loved being patted all day – with no drums in sight!
It was clear that he wouldn’t win any medals as a drum horse in the Army so it was felt best for his wellbeing by the DAC, that he come and live with us where he won’t be put in stressful situations that might affect his health and he can relax and enjoy lots of attention!
