George Retired
George, former service horse of Cranleigh Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA), is well-loved for his very placid and calm personality, as well as his gentle and kind nature. Throughout his career, George was a favourite among riders for his reliability and patience.
Known for being particularly good with nervous riders and serving as a babysitter for new horses, George’s contributions have been immeasurable. Initially, George performed general riding school duties until 2014, participating in all activities. Since joining Cranleigh RDA in 2014, he was an integral part of all lessons, fun rides, hacking, and competitions, supporting both disabled and able-bodied riders. His impressive resume includes participation in major events such as RDA dressage at Hickstead, the annual RDA sponsored ride for eight consecutive years, and Cranleigh RDA dressage competitions.
George has been a stalwart at Cranleigh RDA, much loved by his many riders over his decade of service. Recently, it became clear that George was no longer enjoying his work at the RDA. Following thorough medical checks, it was determined that signs of discomfort were a sign that he was ready to hang up his saddle and head to the Chilterns for retirement.
A spokesperson from Cranleigh RDA said:
He has always been a rock, never complaining or displaying a cross word, making him adored by all our riders.
On his departure from Casi’s Farm, George received heartfelt goodbyes from the team and riders at Cranleigh RDA. His move to The Horse Trust marks the beginning of a well-deserved rest.
George is adjusting well to his new life, initially spending a week in isolation to acclimatize, during which he got to know Sam and Ernie over the fence. Now, he is happily living with his new field buddies Oliver, Perry, Rafferty, and others, enjoying a retirement full of love and care.
