Bill Retired

Bill retired from Gaddesden Place Riding for the Disabled Association (RDA) after over six years of dedicated service. A blue roan skewbald gelding with a sensitive soul and a big heart, Bill was a true superstar in his field – quite literally!
Throughout his career, Bill provided therapy for children with complex physical and medical needs through a form of occupational therapy called hippotherapy. His calm, intelligent nature and ability to trust his handlers made him an ideal partner for this work. From carrying children lying on his back to calmly supporting those sitting backwards or in a four-point crawl, Bill took everything in his stride – even when his riders were upset or distressed.
He also supported smaller riders and was known for being both assertive and kind. Described as a “Merrylegs” type, Bill was much loved for his unique quirks – terrified of puddles, love of rolling in the mud, and particularly fond of the ladies! A clever escape artist in his younger days, he once knew how to remove his own headcollar but mellowed out as he settled into his surroundings.
Despite no longer being able to work due to arthritis and general stiffness, Bill still enjoys a good roll and appreciates his little rug when it rains. Now enjoying his retirement in the Chilterns, he continues to bring smiles to those around him – a well-earned rest for a much-loved pony.
